For neighbors

How it works — your side

You're not spending anything. You're just moving recycling you were already throwing out to the curb on a certain morning — and that supports a neighbor's goal.

How it works for fundraisers ↗
01

Someone shares a campaign link with you

A neighbor — a student, athlete, parent, or community member — has created a fundraiser where they collect recyclables and cash them in toward a goal like a school trip, sports fees, or community project.

They share a link via text, Nextdoor, email, or social media. When you click it, you'll see their campaign page: what they're raising for, how much they've raised so far, and available time slots.

What you'll see on their campaign page:

  • ✓ Who's fundraising and what for
  • ✓ Their progress toward their goal
  • ✓ What materials they're collecting
  • ✓ Available time slots in your area
02

Enter your address

Click “Sign up for a pickup” and enter your home address. This is used to figure out which time slot makes the most sense for you — based on where other neighbors are already signed up.

The app shows you which time slots have the most neighbors near you already signed up. That one gets a “Recommended” label. Choosing it helps keep the collection route tight and efficient, which means more runs per day and more money raised.

Your address is only used for route planning. It's never sold or shared with anyone outside the campaign.

Why address matters

The fundraiser drives a route to collect from all their neighbors in one trip. If everyone nearby chooses the same time window, the route takes 30 minutes instead of 2 hours. That means they can serve more people, raise more, and it's sustainable long-term.

03

Pick a time slot

Choose any time slot that works for your schedule. The recommended window is just a suggestion — pick whichever one you'll actually remember and be home for.

Time slots are recurring — weekly or every two weeks — so once you sign up, you're on the schedule automatically. You'll get a reminder email a day or two before each pickup.

Some campaigns have just one time window. In that case, there's no choice to make — you either sign up or you don't. That's fine too.

04

Fill in your details

Enter your name and email address. Your email is required — it's how you get reminder emails and your personal self-service link to manage your subscription.

You can also add a phone number (optional) and any recycling notes for the fundraiser — like “bags are on the left side of the driveway” or “I have a lot of glass this week.”

No account is created. No password. You get one email with a personal link and that's it.

Your confirmation email includes:

  • ✓ Which window you signed up for
  • ✓ When the first pickup is
  • ✓ A personal link to manage your subscription
  • ✓ What to put out and how to prep it
05

Leave your recycling at the curb

Before your time slot starts, leave your recycling at the curb in a bag or bin. One container is fine — multiple are welcome. Just include what's on the campaign's accepted materials list.

Most campaigns accept aluminum cans, plastic bottles (#1 and #2), and glass bottles. Some accept only cans, or only bottles — check the campaign page to be sure.

You don't need to be home. Just leave it out before the window opens and it'll be gone when you look.

Quick prep checklist

Empty all containers (no liquid)
Give them a quick rinse if possible
Leave caps on plastic bottles
Remove metal lids from glass jars
Put everything in one bag or bin
Leave at the curb before the window opens
06

Skip, update, or cancel anytime

Going on vacation? Skip next week from your personal management link — no app, no account, no contacting the fundraiser.

Changed addresses? Moved? Want to cancel entirely? All of that is self-service. Your personal link (in every reminder email) gives you full control.

There's no commitment. If you decide after one pickup that it's not for you, cancel. If you go away for the summer and come back in September, re-subscribe. It's flexible by design.

What goes in the bag

🥤

Aluminum cans

Beer, soda, sparkling water. Any aluminum beverage can.

✗ Not accepted: Foil, pie tins, steel food cans.

Plastic bottles

#1 (PET) and #2 (HDPE) only. Look for the number inside the recycling symbol.

✗ Not accepted: Yogurt cups, bags, clamshells, straws.

🍾

Glass bottles

Beer, wine, spirits, juice. Empty and rinsed.

✗ Not accepted: Broken glass, ceramics, windows, light bulbs.

Check the campaign page — each campaign specifies which of these it accepts. Not all fundraisers take all three types.

Common questions

Does this cost me anything?

No. You're donating recycling you were already throwing away. There's no money involved on your end — the fundraiser earns the deposit or scrap value when they redeem it.

Do I need to be home during the time slot?

No. Just leave your recycling at the curb before the window starts. The fundraiser drives by to collect it. You never need to be there.

What if I forget to put it out?

No problem — the fundraiser will just skip your house that week. You'll be back on the schedule next time automatically. That's why the reminder emails exist.

How do I skip a week?

Click your personal management link (in every reminder email) and tap "Skip next pickup." You'll be marked as skipping for that date only. The week after, you're automatically back on.

What if I move or want to cancel?

Use your personal management link to cancel at any time. If you move within the same area, you can update your address notes or cancel and re-subscribe with your new address.

Is my address private?

Your address is shared only with the fundraiser who runs the campaign — they need it to know where to pick up. It's not sold, shared publicly, or used for anything else.
